Friends of Blue Streaks Athletics

An organization founded by a group of former Warren Hills athletes, coaches, parents and fans.

Our focus is on the athletic fields of the Middle School and Senior High School. We recognize that our playing facilities are vastly inferior to other public schools and even our own sending districts. One only has to pick up the Easton Express Times and read the Bald Barron’s negative comments about Warren Hills Athletic facilities.

The Warren Hills Booster Club is a separate organization and we support their activities and goals.

Our first goal is to help in supporting a fall referendum that if passed would be a great leap forward. The Referendum in the fall will ask voters to support an all purpose athletic stadium. If passed, it will provide with no tax increase to the tax payers the necessary funds to complete the fields across the street from Warren Hills High School. This project will focus on building a multi purpose sports stadium near the high school and allow our student athletics the opportunity to have a number of sporting and non sporting events in one location.

This area is already home to our tennis team and would also host our track and field teams, our soccer teams, field hockey team and football team. It would be available for band use, graduation and a host of other events related to our community.

Because we lack such a facility our students have been forced in some cases to schedule all athletic events away or in the Washington Township Park facility. The real key to this endeavor is that we will have a multi sports venue at the high school that can be provided without an increase in our taxes. This is due to the fact that the 1989 referendum Additions Bond will be paid off in December and the proposed all sports stadium would be equal in the amount of the premium bond commitment.

The role the “Friends of the Blue Streaks Athletics” has chosen to play in this project is to educate the public about its benefits and work within the community to pass the referendum necessary to approve this project.

To date we have organized and set up a website. We have put together a brochure that illustrates the benefits of this project. We have met with Jim Shanahan from Field Turf and he has given us a great deal of information concerning the installation and use of artificial turf.

Our summer plans are meeting with civic groups and any one interested in our presentation. Again, we feel the more people know about this project the greater the support will be during the fall referendum. We also plan to have newspaper articles appear in the Washington Messenger, Easton Express Times and the Warren Reporter.

During the referendum we plan to email and telephone supporters encouraging them to support the referendum. Once we have a successful referendum our job as far as the new sports stadium is concerned will be to help with any incidental expenses the new sports stadium may need.

Our second goal will be to focus in on other facilities that need attention and begin a process of raising funds to meet that need. We feel we will become a fund raising organization and we will conduct activities to meet that need, such as 5K races, golf tournaments, raffles and 50/50 drawings. We have taken steps to get the necessary state approval for such activities.

We have discussed annual dues and donations and would like to gain the financial support of Warren Hills Blue Streak Alumni, various civic groups, service clubs, merchants, and friends.

As you can well understand much of what we can accomplish in the future can be with community support.
